J. Glenn Richardson
J. Glenn Richardson obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree and his Juris Doctorate degree at Georgia State University, B.A. 1981 and J.D. 1984. He joined the firm in March of 1985. In January of 1989, he was named as County Attorney for Paulding County, Georgia, a political subdivision of the State of Georgia. He served in that position continuously through January 10, 2005. In January of 2005, as a result of his election as Speaker of the Georgia House, he was named Senior/Special Projects Counsel for Paulding County.
As County Attorney, he represented the interest of Paulding County and its elected officials in all aspects of local governmental law. Mr. Richardson has a varied general civil practice which includes all civil litigation, business litigation, personal injury, workers compensation and negligence cases. He represents individuals, partnerships and companies in a wide range of business and related legal matters and represents both plaintiffs and defendants. Mr. Richardson's criminal practice includes very limited engagements in matters of representation of persons charged with criminal violations ranging from misdemeanor traffic offenses through serious felony offenses. He has extensive experience in the trial of such criminal cases as well as civil cases before a jury in the state and federal courts. He is authorized to practice law in the State and Superior Courts, the Northern District of Georgia and the Eleventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia and belongs to the Local Government Section of the same.
Mr. Richardson has served as a member of the Georgia General Assembly and House of Representatives since 1996. As a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, he has served on various committees, including the Judiciary Committee, the Economic Development and Tourism Committee, and the State Planning and Community Affairs Committee. In 2003, he was selected by Governor Sonny Perdue to serve as the Administration Floor Leader in the House. In that same year, the Republican Party of Georgia named Mr. Richardson as the Legislator of the year. In November of 2003, Mr. Richardson was elected as the Minority Leader in the House to serve as the Chief Elected Position in the House Republican Caucus. Following the 2004 election cycle, he was elected to serve as the first Republican Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives since 1870. The Office of Speaker is the Constitutional position for the person designated to preside over the affairs of the House of Representatives of the State of Georgia.
